Initially, Nishiki bicycles were manufactured by Kawamura Cycle Company in Kobe, Japan. The West Coast Cycle in the United States began designing, marketing, and distributing bicycles in the United States under the brand American Eagle. The company saw a bike boom throughout the US between the 1970s to 1980s. Apart from this, Nishiki brand and West Coast Cycles contended against domestic and Japanese companies. The Japanese-manufactured bicycles succeeded in the market, and the currency fluctuations led the company to source the bicycles from Taiwan. In 2013, Dick's Sporting Goods for the US Market acquired Nishiki's licensing rights. Currently, Dick's Sporting Goods markets Nishiki's bicycles and accessories.
