Specialized Bicycle Components, Inc, a Morgan Hill, California-based company, was founded in 1974 by Mike Sinyard. Specialized introduced its own bike parts and launched the Sequoia and Allez bikes in 1981, and in the same year, it released the world's first major mountain bike, Stumpjumper. Specialized declared bankruptcy in 1996, but Merida Bikes bought 49% of its shares. By 2016, the company made a comeback and is now one of the top bicycle manufacturers in the United States.
